3 Audiobooks for Fall 2022

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

Do you prefer the smell of a paper book and the feeling of the paper as you turn the page? Do you have a hard time wrapping your head around the concept of an audiobook? I do! I used to purchase hardcover books so often that I now have an office full of them that do nothing but collect dust. As an entrepreneur and mama of two toddlers, I had to become realistic about the fact that if I did not start listening to audiobooks, I would never, ever finish a book.

As the owner of Cantwell Career Coaching, it's obvious that I would share book recommendations relating to career growth and professional development, and I will. However, I am a huge advocate for a work/life balance and I intend to share a diverse range of books each season, starting with this fall!

Fun fact about me: I love murder mystery books!

I recently signed up for Amazon's Affiliate Program and as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. However, I have been an Amazon Prime member for a decade or more and an Amazon Audible member on and off for years now. Amazon Audible has a free 30-day trial and you will receive one book credit each month. Due to my short attention span, I tend to end the membership when I realize I am not using my credits, then rejoin the membership when I want to read a new book. I personally find that to be one of the best perks of the program!

Top Audiobooks For Fall 2022

September is National Self Improvement month and what better time to start a new book that not only intrigues you but also inhibits professional and/or personal growth? There are less than four months left in the year and now is the perfect time to make some improvements before the new year. Everyone always waits until the new year to make changes but the time is actually now. Growth doesn't happen overnight, it takes weeks, months, and sometimes years. It takes a complete mental mind shift and it takes hard work. I have included two book recommendations below but you can also pick one out for yourself using the Self Improvement Best Seller list.

If you want something lighter and more imaginative, I recommend a romantic thriller. Between the brisk, chilly mornings, fuzzy slippers, hot caramel apple cider, homemade cookies, changing leaves, and flannels... fall is the perfect time to embrace your inner romantic. Whether you have the time to cuddle up with a book in your hand early in the morning or you're driving home trying to escape the stress of traffic by listening to an audiobook, there is something for you in the Romantic Thriller Best Sellers category.

3 Audio Books For Fall 2022:

The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson

This book recommendation was given to me by a best friend, although I am not sure why, she just said I had to read it! Based on the title, I knew I would find it interesting. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson is a mega-bestseller that reached #1 in 14 counties and offers a counterintuitive approach to living a good life.

The book provides several real-life examples of how important it is to just give a f*ck about a few things, and not everything. As with most books, I started spacing out in the middle, feeling bored and realizing that I was not paying attention as much; however, I was told to keep listening and I was glad that I did. The book redefined a genre and it enables you to feel comfortable with being different.

This book is ideal for readers who usually despise self-help books, anyone experiencing grief, or anyone who carries too much on their plate at all times

The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan

The Gap and the Gain was a recommendation from my friend, Beth. I was talking to her about not feeling accomplished enough and she simply told me to go read "The Gap and the Gain." I downloaded it immediately and five minutes into the book, I started laughing - this book was written for me.

The Gap and the Gain is an insightful read that encourages you to recognize how far you've come, instead of always trying to achieve the next big thing. Quoted from the book: "The GAP is where people measure progress based on ideals whilst the GAIN is where people look back and actually measure the distance they have traveled, the outcomes they have achieved, and appreciate the gains made."

My personal take on this book was that I was hooked from the beginning, then I lost interest for a while in the middle but I stuck with it and was happy in the end. After listening to this book, I walked away feeling like I was more successful than I had realized. I viewed my three years as a business owner and my time on this earth as a mother in a completely different light after reading this. I started noticing the words coming out of my mouth more and I started celebrating little victories more. I realized that success is not always measured in the form of goal achievement and dollars in your bank account, but also in the lives that you touch and the progress that you have made.

This book is ideal for anyone, especially the "glass half-empty" people; however, I think the readers who will gain the most value are the entrepreneurs and professional go-getters.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover is a bestselling romance author and I am embarrassed to say, this is the first book of hers that I have read. I prefer murder mystery/thriller books to romance novels, but I was told that this book was a perfect blend. I listened to the audiobook in just two days and which is unheard of for me, but it was so easy to follow along and listen to while doing other light work.

The book, Verity, is about a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime before things take a dark twist. Although this book was not as much of a thriller as I'd prefer, there were some plot twists and the romance aspect was spicy enough to keep me intrigued.

This book is ideal for anyone who enjoys romance, plot twists, and psychological thrillers.
